A 26-year-old woman is fighting for her life following a horrific beating and hit-and-run incident early Sunday morning along Benny Lane, St. Augustine.
The victim, Shannon Gonzales, remains in critical condition at hospital, where she is reportedly on life support. Doctors have informed her family that her injuries — including punctured lungs — are life-threatening.
According to preliminary reports, Gonzales was allegedly lured to the location and ambushed by a group of individuals. Investigators have identified five suspects by their street names: Honey, Neisha, Keil, Kimberly, and Andy — the latter believed to have been driving a black Nissan Tiida involved in the incident.
Authorities say CCTV footage captured portions of the assault, which is now being reviewed by detectives attached to the St. Joseph Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
In an emotional interview, Gonzales’ mother described the trauma of seeing her daughter in such critical condition and appealed to the public for justice. The family also claimed that a relative of one of the suspects attempted to offer money to silence them — an allegation now under police scrutiny.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many calling for swift arrests and accountability.
