What began as a late-night meet-up arranged through Instagram ended in tragedy when an attempted burglary turned deadly, leaving 18-year-old Te’shawn Harris fatally shot in the early morning hours of August 8, 2024.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called around 2:55 a.m. after receiving reports of a man shot near the intersection of 6th Street and Date Palm Drive. When officers arrived, they found Harris lying in a dirt median with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene just after 3 a.m.
Roughly an hour later, dispatchers received another 911 call from a man in Riviera Beach, who reported firing a single shot at two men in hoodies attempting to carjack him. He was later identified as the shooter in the incident.
During the investigation, detectives learned that 21-year-old Berlin Noel had arranged a meeting with someone he believed was a woman on Instagram, but suspected it was a fake profile. He brought along friends Henry Cannon III and Te’shawn Harris as backup.
When a man arrived driving a black truck, Noel got in. The driver later stopped at a nearby park, where Harris approached and opened the back door. The driver, fearing a carjacking, fired a single shot, striking Harris.
Further investigation, including surveillance footage and phone messages, revealed that Noel and Cannon had planned to enter the vehicle to commit an unarmed theft. Detectives concluded that their actions directly led to Harris’s death.
On October 2, 2025, both Noel and Cannon were charged with felony murder for their roles in the failed burglary that resulted in Harris’s death.
Authorities say the case highlights how online deception and poor judgment led to a deadly chain of events that ended one young man’s life and left two others facing serious criminal charges.
