Emergency crews responded late Tuesday morning to a serious crash after a truck towing a travel trailer went off the I-40 bridge and landed on Tramway Boulevard.
According to Albuquerque Fire Rescue (AFR), the crash happened around 11:17 a.m. at the intersection of Interstate 40 and Tramway Boulevard. When firefighters arrived, they found a heavily damaged truck and trailer that had fallen from the overpass.
Two people were inside the vehicle at the time of the accident. One person suffered critical injuries and had to be extricated by firefighters, while the other managed to escape the wreckage on their own. Both were evaluated at the scene, and one patient was taken to a local hospital by Albuquerque Ambulance Service.
AFR said eight units were dispatched to handle the response, which included treatment, triage, and transport operations.
The Albuquerque Police Department (APD) is investigating the cause of the crash. Officials have not released the names of those involved.
Traffic in the area was disrupted for several hours while crews worked to clear the debris and assist investigators.
