Tragic Loss of 22-Year-Old Educator in Harrogate Car Crash

A promising young educator’s life was cut short in a fatal single-vehicle accident early Saturday morning in Claiborne County. Katlin Shay Burger, age 22, of Walland, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from injuries sustained in a crash in Harrogate.
According to the preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the incident occurred around 12:16 a.m. on Forge Ridge Road near the 1600-block.

Burger was driving a 2002 Toyota 4Runner eastbound when she failed to maintain her lane on a right-hand curve, crossed the center line, exited the roadway to the left, and the vehicle overturned and struck a tree
Burger had been serving as a special education teacher and assistant girls’ basketball coach at Cumberland Gap High School, where colleagues describe her as compassionate, dedicated and deeply committed to her students and athletes.
Her obituary notes that she is survived by her parents, Kevin and Annette Burger of Walland, a sister Kelsey, and other extended family. Visitation and funeral arrangements are being handled via the Jeffers Funeral Home in Afton, Tennessee.
