Three people from Texas were killed Tuesday morning when a small plane crashed in Lafayette Parish.
According to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded just after 11 a.m. to reports of a plane going down near West Gloria Switch Road and Louisiana Highway 93.
When first responders arrived, they found the wreckage of a twin-engine Beechcraft Baron aircraft in an open field. All three people on board were pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials have identified the victims as Bruce Verduyn, 58, of The Woodlands, Texas; Justin Ramsey, 42, also of The Woodlands; and Lydia Laws, 46, of Spring, Texas.
Flight records show the plane took off from Hooks Memorial Airport near Houston around 9:50 a.m. and lost contact roughly an hour later as it approached the Lafayette area.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the cause of the crash. So far, no details have been released about what may have led to the accident.
Authorities say no one on the ground was injured.
