HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Authorities have arrested three teenagers in connection with the killing of Quoc “Jake” Nguyen, a 28-year-old U.S. Marine veteran who was found dead on a highway in northeastern Harris County earlier this month.
According to investigators, Nguyen was discovered on September 4, 2025, after being shot and left on the roadside. His vehicle and personal belongings had been stolen.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said a 15-year-old suspect has been charged in connection with Nguyen’s killing, while two other minors, aged 14 and 13, face charges of tampering with evidence. All three are being held in juvenile custody as the investigation continues.
Family members said Nguyen had been working as an Uber driver at the time of his death to help support his mother and sister, while studying to become an emergency medical technician (EMT).
Nguyen’s brother, Matthew Nguyen, described him as hardworking and selfless.
“Jake was doing everything he could to take care of our family,” his brother said. “He served his country, came home to help others, and was working toward becoming an EMT. He didn’t deserve this.”
Investigators are still piecing together the events leading up to the shooting and have not disclosed whether the suspects were passengers or known to Nguyen.
Community members and fellow veterans have expressed outrage and grief over the killing, with online tributes describing Nguyen as a man of honor and compassion.
