Authorities are investigating a shooting that took place overnight in Lyndhurst Township, leaving one man injured, officials confirmed Saturday.
According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Lyndhurst Police Department, the investigation began after the Paterson Police Department provided information indicating a possible shooting had occurred overnight on Valley Brook Avenue, near the 1500 block in the Meadowlands section of Lyndhurst.
Officers responded to the area and found evidence confirming that a shooting had taken place. Investigators from both agencies, with help from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, collected several spent shell casings from the scene.
Detectives later identified a male victim who arrived at Hackensack University Medical Center early Saturday morning with a gunshot wound. The victim’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening, and he has since been treated and released.
Authorities said the victim has been uncooperative with investigators. Based on preliminary findings, officials believe the shooting was an isolated incident and emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
The investigation is being conducted jointly by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under Chief Matthew Finck, and the Lyndhurst Police Department, under Chief Richard L. Jarvis.
