A 36-year-old man has died after being struck by a vehicle in St. Louis’s Central West End earlier this month. Police have identified the victim as Joseph Mahoney, a construction worker who succumbed to his injuries on October 16, 2025, three days after the crash.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the collision occurred around 6:15 a.m. on October 13 in the 100 block of North Kingshighway Boulevard. Investigators say Mahoney was attempting to block traffic so construction equipment could be moved from an off-road work site when he was struck by a Chevrolet Malibu traveling northbound.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and has been cooperating fully with authorities.
A preliminary investigation by the department’s Accident Reconstruction Unit found that while Mahoney was wearing construction gear at the time, there were no barricades or warning devices indicating a lane closure or construction activity on the roadway. Police confirmed that no active roadwork was taking place when the incident occurred.
Mahoney was transported to a local hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries.
The investigation into the fatal crash remains ongoing, and police have not announced any charges at this time
