REDDING, Calif. — A Redding mother is demanding answers and stronger safety measures at Bonnyview Elementary School after her daughter allegedly received a written death threat from another student during school hours last week.
In a public Facebook post shared by Rebecca Rogers, she said her daughter, Cora Herzberg, was the named target of a disturbing note on Friday, October 17th. The message, reportedly written and delivered by another student, contained explicit violent language, including the words “I am going to cut you up, watch you bleed,” and specifically identified Cora by name.
Rogers said the note was composed during regular class hours and handed directly to her daughter, calling it a deliberate act. “This means the student had time to think about it, throw it away, or walk away — but instead chose to deliver a clear message of harm,” she wrote. “That’s not a careless moment. That’s intent.”
Initially, Rogers said she was told by school staff that the note might have been “song lyrics.” However, after speaking further with administrators, she said it became clear that the message was not a misunderstanding, but a direct threat.
Rogers expressed deep concern over what she described as a lack of urgency and transparency from school officials and the Redding Elementary School District. According to her post, the student responsible for writing the note has continued to attend school activities, including camp, while her family awaits a full response.
“This delay in action and lack of communication is unacceptable,” Rogers wrote. “I’ve trusted this school to protect my child, and instead, I’ve been left waiting. This is not being handled as the death threat it was intended to be.”
Her post, which includes screenshots of communications with the superintendent, director of education, principal, and after-school coordinator, has drawn attention from other parents in the district. Rogers urged fellow families to speak up and demand accountability.
“Every child deserves to feel safe at school — and every parent deserves to be informed when that safety is threatened,” she said.
As of Tuesday, the Redding Elementary School District has not publicly commented on the incident or provided details regarding any disciplinary action.
