A Palm Coast woman has been arrested after identifying herself as the suspect shown in a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) social media post connected to a credit card theft investigation.
According to FCSO, 19-year-old Brynn Gifford was accused of stealing a customer’s credit card while working as a receptionist at Palm Nails, a nail salon in Palm Coast. Detectives say the victim left her credit card at the salon on August 6. When she realized it was missing, she checked her account and found 10 fraudulent charges totaling more than $500 made between August 6 and August 9 at local stores and restaurants.
Surveillance footage obtained from several businesses showed a woman with long dark hair wearing a white camouflage jacket using the stolen card. However, investigators were initially unable to identify her.
On September 23, FCSO posted the suspect’s photo on social media asking for the public’s help. Later that same day, Gifford called the sheriff’s office and said she was the woman in the image. When detectives interviewed her, she first denied any wrongdoing, but later admitted it was her in the surveillance photos. Items found in her backpack, including notebooks and pens, matched those purchased with the stolen card at Walmart.
Detectives confirmed that Gifford was employed at Palm Nails during the time the card was taken. Following the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued on October 15 for fraudulent use of personal identification information of a person 60 years or older, fraudulent use of a credit card more than twice in six months, and petit theft.
Gifford was arrested the next day in Daytona Beach by the Daytona Beach Police Department with assistance from FCSO’s Fugitive Unit. She was booked into the Volusia County Correctional Facility and later released on a $4,000 bond.
