Owen County Man Arrested on Multiple Child Exploitation and Abuse Charges

An Owen County man has been arrested and charged in connection with a series of alleged child sex crimes following an investigation by the Indiana State Police.

According to court documents, Charles May is facing several felony charges, including two counts of child molestation, as well as child solicitation, sexual misconduct with a minor, performing sexual conduct in the presence of a minor, displaying matter harmful to minors, and intimidation. He also faces one misdemeanor count of distribution of an intimate image.

The investigation began on July 15, when a representative from the Owen County Department of Child Services reported allegations involving May to state police. The report included claims from a juvenile alleging inappropriate sexual behavior.

During the course of the investigation, detectives gathered evidence and conducted multiple forensic interviews with minors, who described repeated inappropriate contact and coercive behavior allegedly involving May at his home in Spencer.

Authorities say that one of the minors reported being shown explicit material and was pressured to share it with others. Another minor told investigators that May threatened her to keep quiet about the alleged incidents.

Following the investigation, police arrested Charles May, who was booked into the Owen County Jail.

The case remains under review by the Owen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Indiana State Police.
