A tragic case of abuse and neglect has shaken the Opelousas community after police confirmed that the death of a 2-month-old infant was the result of severe mistreatment.
According to the Opelousas Police Department, officers were called to the 200 block of North Liberty Street around 8:09 p.m. on October 25, 2025, for a report of a medical emergency involving an infant who was not breathing. When officers arrived, they found the baby girl unresponsive and immediately began performing CPR until paramedics arrived. The infant was rushed to a local hospital but was later pronounced dead.
The victim has been identified as 2-month-old Alora Faye Broussard.
An autopsy revealed that Alora suffered from extreme dehydration, malnourishment, broken ribs—some showing signs of healing—and a severed lower spine, which caused fatal internal bleeding.
Investigators determined that Alora had been in the exclusive care of her parents, Kaylee Fontenot and Taylor Broussard, since birth. Following the autopsy results, arrest warrants were issued for both parents on charges of First Degree Murder, Cruelty to Juveniles, and Second Degree Battery.
Authorities confirmed that Kaylee Fontenot has been arrested and taken into custody. Taylor Broussard remains at large and is wanted on the same charges.
