Authorities have identified the man killed in a shooting during Lincoln University’s homecoming celebration over the weekend as 25-year-old Jujuan Jeffers of Wilmington, Delaware.
The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. Saturday outside the International Cultural Center on the university’s campus, where students and alumni had gathered for a post-game event.
Police said Jeffers died shortly after midnight from a gunshot wound to the head. Six others, between the ages of 20 and 25, were also shot and taken to area hospitals. Investigators said one of the wounded is a current student, one is an alumnus, and the other four have no known connection to the school. All six are expected to survive.
Zecqueous Morgan-Thompson, 21, also from Wilmington, has been arrested and charged with carrying a concealed firearm without a license. He is being held at Chester County Prison on $25,000 bail. Police have not confirmed whether the firearm found in his possession was used in the shooting.
During a press briefing, Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan said investigators believe multiple shooters were involved. Evidence suggests the incident began as a violent altercation, not a pre-planned attack.
The campus was briefly placed on lockdown following the shooting but has since reopened. Classes were canceled Monday, and university officials said a remembrance event is being planned in honor of Jeffers.
