A woman has issued a warning to others after returning home from a short school run to find smoke coming from one of her kitchen appliances.
The incident occurred after the woman left her property for just ten minutes, leaving an appliance running while she took her children to school. Upon returning, she noticed smoke escaping from the device and quickly unplugged it, preventing what could have been a serious fire.
“I only popped out for the school run,” she said. “When I came back, I saw smoke and panicked. I learned my lesson — I’ll never leave anything on when I leave the house again.”
Fire safety experts have since praised her quick actions, reminding homeowners that electrical fires can start within minutes. Authorities continue to urge residents to switch off all nonessential appliances before leaving their homes, even for a short time.
“This serves as an important reminder that appliances should never be left running unattended,” a fire service spokesperson said. “It only takes a few minutes for something to go wrong.”
