EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The Vanderburgh County community is mourning the loss of Rebecca Versteeg, a 44-year-old nurse from Evansville, who was found dead in her vehicle Wednesday afternoon in western Vanderburgh County.
According to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, Versteeg had been reported missing on Tuesday, prompting a search effort by local authorities and concerned friends and family. Deputies located her vehicle and discovered her deceased inside the next day.
Investigators said no signs of foul play were found at the scene, though an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
Versteeg, described by colleagues as a dedicated and compassionate nurse, was well known in the local healthcare community for her professionalism and caring nature. Friends and co-workers have shared tributes online, remembering her as someone who “always put others before herself.”
The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office will release additional details once the autopsy results are complete.
