Andrew Jordan Thompson, 30, is accused of shooting a man outside the downtown Minneapolis club, leaving the victim critically injured after an early morning altercation.
MINNEAPOLIS — A Minneapolis nightclub bouncer has been charged after allegedly shooting a man outside Rick’s Cabaret earlier this month, leaving the victim hospitalized in critical condition.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County, 30-year-old Andrew Jordan Thompson of Minneapolis faces a charge of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon causing substantial bodily harm.
Police were called to the intersection of 3rd Street South and 2nd Avenue South around 3:34 a.m. on October 5 after reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Altercation Outside the Club
A woman who was with the victim told investigators that the pair had been at Rick’s Cabaret when the victim got into a verbal dispute with the club’s bouncer as they were leaving.
According to the woman, the victim later walked back across the street toward the bouncer, and the two began fighting, exchanging punches. She said the victim knocked the bouncer to the ground before both began to walk away.
Moments later, she saw the bouncer approach while clutching his waistband, appearing to hold a gun. The woman said she started running and heard a gunshot, followed by three more. When she turned back, the victim was lying on the ground.
The witness also provided police with cellphone video of the altercation showing the fight but not the shooting itself.
Investigation and Arrest
Officers recovered several spent shell casings and one live round from the scene. Management at Rick’s Cabaret identified the bouncer involved as Andrew Thompson, confirming he and the victim had been seen fighting shortly before the gunfire.
A search warrant executed at Thompson’s Minneapolis apartment uncovered a bag of handgun ammunition, along with his Social Security card and mail bearing his name. Forensic testing of the ammunition and recovered shell casings is ongoing.
Thompson was arrested and booked into custody. During his initial court appearance on Monday, bail was set at $50,000, and the court imposed a no-contact order with the victim.
Prior Offenses and Potential Sentence
Court records indicate Thompson was convicted in 2023 for possessing a firearm without a permit and was on probation at the time of the shooting.
If convicted on the current charge, Thompson faces up to 10 years in prison
