Man Charged After Fatal Shooting of Worker in Stafford County

A man is facing murder charges after deputies say he shot and killed a worker performing his job at a home in Stafford County.

According to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened Monday afternoon in the 600 block of Mountain View Road.

Deputies were called to the area after a caller reported hearing gunfire while speaking on the phone with a co-worker who was at the property. The caller said the line suddenly went silent after the shots were heard.

When deputies arrived, they found 35-year-old Michael Dodge II of Caroline County lying in the driveway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say Dodge had been working at the home for a mortgage company when he was shot several times.

Deputies surrounded the residence after seeing movement inside and were able to take 64-year-old Donald Thomas of Stafford County into custody following a brief standoff.

Thomas has been charged with first-degree murder and unlawfully shooting or wounding in the commission of a felony. He is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
