LYNWOOD, Calif. — Residents of a Lynwood apartment complex are reeling after the horrifying discovery of a 7-year-old boy’s body found inside a freezer earlier this week. Neighbors say they are heartbroken and struggling to understand how such a tragedy could unfold so close to home.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the grim discovery was made during a welfare check at the apartment on Monday. Deputies were reportedly responding to concerns raised by neighbors who had not seen the child for several days.
Authorities have not yet released details on how long the boy’s body had been in the freezer or the cause of death. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy as detectives continue their investigation.
Neighbors described the atmosphere at the apartment complex as one of shock and grief. “It’s just unthinkable,” said one resident. “You hear about things like this on the news, but never expect it to happen right next door.”
No arrests have been announced at this time, and officials say the investigation remains ongoing.
