Louisiana rapper Young Bleed, best known for his work with No Limit Records in the late 1990s, has died at the age of 51. His son, Ty’Gee Clifton, confirmed the news in an Instagram post on Monday, November 3.
According to Clifton, Young Bleed — whose real name was Glenn Clifton Jr. — passed away on November 1 after suffering a brain aneurysm. Clifton said his father’s blood pressure spiked at a party following his performance at the No Limit and Cash Money Verzuz event in Las Vegas.
“As of November 1, my dad gained his wings,” Clifton said in his post. “My dad didn’t have any real health issues. These are just chapters in life.”
Young Bleed rose to fame in the mid-1990s as part of Baton Rouge’s growing hip-hop scene. His 1998 debut album, My Balls & My Word, released through No Limit Records, achieved gold certification and featured his breakout hit single “How Ya Do That.”
Over the years, Young Bleed released more than a dozen projects, including his most recent album, Dare’ Iza’ God, in 2022.
Fans and fellow artists have taken to social media to pay tribute to the rapper, calling him a pioneer of Louisiana hip-hop and a major influence on Southern rap culture.
Funeral arrangements for Young Bleed have not yet been announced.
