A quiet Houston neighborhood was left in disbelief after a brutal and seemingly random attack claimed the life of 64-year-old Steven Anderson, a retired cancer center manager described by friends as kind, soft-spoken, and deeply respected.
According to the Houston Police Department, the deadly assault occurred on May 3, 2024, outside Anderson’s home. Investigators say 20-year-old Karon Fisher struck Anderson with her car as he walked to retrieve his mail. Rather than stopping, Fisher allegedly reversed, hitting him again, before getting out of the vehicle and attacking him further.
Surveillance footage from a nearby home reportedly captured the horrifying sequence. Police say Fisher knelt beside the wounded man before stabbing him multiple times. Witnesses rushed to Anderson’s aid, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Fisher was arrested a short time later and charged with murder. Her bond was initially set at $2 million. While undergoing evaluation at a hospital, she allegedly assaulted a staff member and later bit a jailer, resulting in additional charges.
Authorities have found no prior connection between Fisher and Anderson, and the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Investigators are reviewing Fisher’s mental health history as part of the ongoing case.
Neighbors say Anderson had lived in the area for years and was well-known for his kindness and generosity. “He was one of those people everyone liked,” one resident said. “It’s heartbreaking to lose someone so good in such a senseless way.”
