HOPEWELL, N.J. — Authorities have confirmed that Brian DiBiasi, a former Hamilton Township police officer facing serious child exploitation charges alongside his wife, was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at a state park in Hopewell. He was 40 years old.
According to investigators, park authorities discovered DiBiasi’s body earlier this week. His death comes months after he and his wife, Elizabeth DiBiasi, 43, were arrested in January by the New Jersey State Police on disturbing allegations that they engaged in sexual acts in front of children and filmed the encounters.
Court records show Brian DiBiasi faced multiple charges, including:
Causing or permitting a child to engage in a sexual act that may be photographed or filmed (1st degree)
Engaging in sexual conduct that would debauch the morals of a child (2nd degree)
Possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material (2nd and 3rd degree)
Elizabeth DiBiasi, a Mercer County Sheriff’s Officer at the time of her arrest, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child by engaging in sexual conduct.
Following their arrests, both were suspended without pay, and Hamilton Township officials had announced their intent to terminate Brian DiBiasi, who had served the department for 21 years. His wife has been with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office for 18 years.
The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office confirmed that both cases were ongoing prior to Brian DiBiasi’s death. Authorities say his death is being investigated as an apparent suicide, with no evidence of foul play.
The Attorney General’s Office declined to comment further, citing the pending prosecution against Elizabeth DiBiasi.
