Farmington Police are investigating after a man was injured by two syringes that had been taped to a toilet seat inside the Walmart on East Main Street.
Officers were called around 4 p.m. on September 6 after the 51-year-old victim, a Walmart employee from Pueblo, Colorado, reported being “stabbed” by the syringes while using the men’s restroom. The man, who asked to remain anonymous, told police he immediately feared he had been injected with an unknown substance.
According to a police report, the syringes were uncapped and contained a pink sediment. A crime scene investigator tested the contents, but the results were inconclusive. The evidence was sent to the New Mexico Department of Public Safety Forensic Laboratory in Santa Fe for further analysis.
The victim told officers he had seen another man leave the stall just before the incident. He described the suspect as a Hispanic or Native American male, in his late 20s, weighing between 120 and 150 pounds, and wearing a black T-shirt with a demonic symbol.
Police reviewed surveillance footage but were unable to identify a suspect. The case has been marked inactive while investigators wait for the lab results, which could take several months.
Farmington Police spokeswoman Shanice Gonzales said investigators did their due diligence and reminded the public to be cautious when using public restrooms.
