A tragic scene unfolded in Del Mar Heights this morning after an elderly couple was found shot to death inside their home, authorities said.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a welfare check at a residence in the upscale coastal neighborhood shortly after 9 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered the bodies of an elderly man and woman, both suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Homicide detectives say preliminary evidence indicates the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide, though the investigation remains ongoing. The names of the victims have not yet been released pending family notification.
Authorities say there is no threat to the public, and investigators are working to determine what led to the tragic incident.
