The Dallas Cowboys announced Wednesday that defensive end Marshawn Kneeland has died at the age of 24.
In a statement released by the team, the Cowboys said, “It is with extreme sadness that the Dallas Cowboys share that Marshawn Kneeland tragically passed away this morning. Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organization. Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family.”
Kneeland, who joined the Cowboys earlier this year, quickly earned respect from teammates and coaches for his strong work ethic and positive attitude. He was considered one of the team’s promising young defenders.
No additional details surrounding his death have been released.
Teammates and fans expressed shock and sorrow on social media, remembering Kneeland as a kind and determined player who always brought energy to the locker room.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. The team said grief counseling will be made available to players and staff.
