Cookeville Police Investigate Fatal Stabbing on Miller Avenue

A 40-year-old man has died following a stabbing early Saturday morning in Cookeville; police say a female suspect was detained at the scene.

The Cookeville Police Department is investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred early Saturday, October 18, 2025, on Miller Avenue in Cookeville, Tennessee.

According to police, officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 2:14 a.m. following reports of a stabbing. When officers arrived, they located an adult male victim suffering from an apparent stab wound.

The victim, identified as 40-year-old Shawn Torres, was airlifted to a Nashville-area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

A 40-year-old female suspect was detained at the scene without incident and interviewed by detectives. Police say that following a preliminary investigation, no charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.

In a statement, the Cookeville Police Department extended condolences to Mr. Torres’s family:

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Torres. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.”

Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances of the incident or the relationship between the victim and the suspect.
