Authorities in Ontario have confirmed that the 1-year-old child at the center of Tuesday afternoon’s AMBER Alert has been found safe and unharmed.
Police say the alert, issued shortly before 5 p.m., was canceled after the child was dropped off with relatives.
According to Peel Regional Police, the case is connected to a fatal shooting that happened earlier in the day in a parking lot near Airport Road and Queen Street East in Brampton. Investigators believe it was an incident of intimate partner violence.
The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Anthony Deschepper, remains at large. He’s described as a white male, about 5’9″ tall, 175 pounds, with brown hair and a clean-shaven face. He was last seen wearing a blue hoodie, blue jeans, and carrying a black crossbody bag.
Police believe Deschepper may be driving a black 2024 Nissan Kicks with Quebec license plate FRV4520.
A shelter-in-place warning has been issued for residents in Fort Erie, especially near Prospect Point and Ridgeway Road, where he is believed to be hiding.
Officials say Deschepper is armed and dangerous — if you see him or his vehicle, do not approach. Instead, call 911 immediately.
Multiple police agencies are now involved in the search. Authorities are thanking the public for their help and continued vigilance as the manhunt continues.
