The Westminster Police Department (WPD) is investigating a deadly shooting that occurred late Tuesday night at a motel near 120th Avenue and Melody Drive, leaving one man dead and another temporarily detained.
According to police, officers responded just after 10 p.m. on November 4 to reports of a disturbance involving weapons. Upon arrival, they discovered an adult male inside the motel suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators say the shooting stemmed from a physical altercation between two men, though the exact details of what led to the confrontation remain under review.
An adult male was initially taken into custody at the scene. However, after interviewing witnesses and consulting with the Adams County District Attorney’s Office, police later released him pending further investigation.
Authorities emphasize that no additional suspects are being sought, and there is no active threat to the public.
“These investigations are complex and often require time to ensure all facts are properly gathered,” the WPD noted in its release.
The Adams County Coroner’s Office will identify the deceased victim once next of kin have been notified and will determine the official cause of death.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact the Westminster Police Department.
