It has been nearly three years since 20-year-old Kobe Persley was fatally shot at Meadowbrook Park, and police say the case remains under investigation.
On the night of January 25, 2021, Lexington police officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Harvard Drive after receiving multiple reports of shots fired. When they arrived, officers found Persley suffering from several gunshot wounds. According to investigators, Persley had managed to call 911 himself before officers reached the scene.
Emergency crews provided medical aid before transporting him to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where he later died from his injuries early the next morning. The Fayette County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Persley sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead just after 5:30 a.m.
At the time, police said there were no suspects in custody and urged anyone with information to come forward. Detectives continue to investigate, but no arrests have been made.
Family and friends of Persley have continued to honor his memory, calling for justice and pleading for answers. “Three years, no justice, no peace,” one post read on social media this week, as loved ones gathered to remember the young man’s life.
