Authorities have identified the woman killed in a shooting early Tuesday morning on the city’s west side as Bonita Keeble.
According to the Sioux Falls Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 6 a.m. Tuesday near the 6400 block of West 53rd Street, where they found Keeble suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite lifesaving efforts at the scene, she was pronounced dead by emergency personnel.
Detectives have since classified the case as a homicide and are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading to the shooting. Police say they are interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses.
No arrests have been announced, and authorities have not yet released information about a potential suspect or motive.
“This was a targeted incident, and we do not believe there is a broader threat to the public,” a department spokesperson said Tuesday afternoon.
An autopsy is scheduled through the Minnehaha County Coroner’s Office, and police are urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact Sioux Falls Police or Crime Stoppers at (605) 367-7007.
