Authorities in the Philippines are investigating the presumed death of 26-year-old American citizen Elliot Eastman, who was kidnapped at gunpoint in Sibuco, Mindanao, on October 17, 2024.
According to investigators, Eastman, originally from Vermont, was taken from his home by a group of armed men and forced onto a boat. Witnesses told police that Eastman resisted his captors and was shot during the struggle. His body was allegedly thrown into the sea after his death. Despite search operations along the coast, his remains have not yet been found.
Police have confirmed that four men have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping, while four additional suspects remain at large. Authorities believe the group may be part of a local criminal network operating in the Zamboanga Peninsula region.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) and military units are conducting joint operations to locate the remaining suspects. The U.S. Embassy in Manila has been informed of the case and is assisting in coordination with Eastman’s family and Philippine authorities.
Local residents of Sibuco have expressed shock and fear following the incident, which has renewed concerns over security in remote coastal areas of Mindanao.
Officials continue to urge anyone with information on the suspects or Eastman’s whereabouts to contact authorities immediately as the investigation remains active and ongoing.
