A 17-year-old boy has died following a single-vehicle crash in Lexington County early Sunday morning.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Jim Spence Road. Officials say the vehicle left the roadway and crashed, resulting in the death of the driver, identified as George Hall Gomez Jr., of Leesville.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, but Gomez was pronounced dead shortly after the crash. No one else was reported to be in the vehicle at the time.
Authorities have not yet determined what caused the vehicle to leave the road. Investigators are working to determine whether speed or other factors may have contributed.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
