Police have arrested a 31-year-old man in Dodge City after he allegedly shot and killed his wife early Monday morning.
According to the Dodge City Police Department, officers responded around 5:45 a.m. to reports of gunfire in the 3000 block of Gary Avenue. When they arrived, a man approached officers and told them he had just shot his wife.
Officers went to the location provided and found a 31-year-old woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, identified as Israel Esquivel-Ibarra, was taken into custody and booked into the Ford County Jail. He faces charges of first-degree murder and criminal discharge of a firearm.
Authorities identified the victim as Emma Prieto, according to a verified GoFundMe page created by family and friends.
Police said the case remains under investigation and will be forwarded to the Ford County Attorney’s Office for review
