WILLIAMS, Calif. — An 84-year-old man who was reported missing Saturday afternoon was found dead later that evening in an irrigation canal near his home, according to the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials identified the man as Jim Hamner of Williams.
Hamner was reported missing early Saturday afternoon from his residence near Hankins and Stovall roads, about 50 miles northwest of Sacramento. Williams is best known as the home of Granzella’s restaurant and deli, a popular stop along Interstate 5.
A large-scale search effort was launched, involving the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office, local fire departments, the California Highway Patrol, and search and rescue teams from Colusa and Glenn counties.
Hamner was located around 9:15 p.m. in an irrigation canal not far from his home.
Authorities said no foul play is suspected at this time, though the Colusa County Coroner’s Office will determine the official cause of death.
