Ruston Man Arrested for Allegedly Offering Money to Minor for Sex Acts

RUSTON, La. — A 45-year-old man from Choudrant has been arrested after police say he offered money to a minor in exchange for sexual acts during a late-night encounter at a city park.

According to the Ruston Police Department, an officer on patrol around 2:53 a.m. on October 17, 2025, noticed a vehicle parked at a local park that was closed after dark. When the officer approached, he found an adult man standing outside the driver’s door and a minor sitting in the driver’s seat.

Police identified the adult as Troy Hughes Jr., 45, of Choudrant, and determined that the two had met online before arranging to meet in person. During questioning, the minor told officers that Hughes Jr. had offered him money in exchange for sex acts.

Both individuals were taken to the Ruston Police Department for further investigation. Following interviews, officers arrested Hughes Jr. and transported him to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center, where he was booked on the following charges:

Possession/Distribution of Drug Paraphernalia

Possession of Schedule I – Marijuana (1st Offense)

Soliciting for Prostitutes

Authorities say additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

In a statement, the Ruston Police Department emphasized its commitment to protecting minors and pursuing those who attempt to exploit them.

“The safety of our community’s most vulnerable members remains our top priority,” the department said. “We will continue to identify, investigate, and apprehend anyone involved in crimes against children.”
