Columbus police have identified the victim in a deadly early-morning stabbing that occurred near the Ohio State University campus on Sunday.
Authorities say 21-year-old Robert Russell was found with stab wounds just before 2 a.m. along Pearl Street between 14th and 15th avenues, in the heart of the University District — only a block from campus.
An officer working a special duty assignment discovered Russell at the scene and immediately called for medical assistance. He was rushed to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Investigators say Russell became involved in an argument that escalated into a physical altercation, during which he was stabbed. The suspects fled the area on foot, and police are still working to identify those involved.
The area near North High Street was closed off for several hours overnight as detectives processed the scene and collected evidence.
No arrests have been made, and police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Columbus Division of Police Homicide Unit at (614) 645-4730 or leave an anonymous tip through Central Ohio Crime Stoppers.
This marks another violent incident in the University District area, prompting renewed calls for safety awareness around the Ohio State campus.
