The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the tragic death of 19-year-old Donald Anthony Stickrath, who died Monday morning in what authorities believe was an accidental shooting at a campground in the Hualapai Mountains.
Deputies were dispatched around 9:20 a.m. to a campsite off Flag Mine Road following a report of an accidental firearm discharge. When they arrived, officers found two men inside a tent performing CPR on Stickrath. Deputies immediately assisted with life-saving efforts, but despite their best efforts, they were unable to detect a pulse.
Medical personnel soon arrived and confirmed Stickrath’s death at the scene. His body was later transferred to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination.
According to early findings from investigators, Stickrath had been handling his handgun when it accidentally discharged, striking him and causing fatal injuries. Detectives have taken over the case and are continuing to gather evidence to confirm the circumstances of the shooting.
Authorities have not released additional details pending the outcome of the investigation but have emphasized that no foul play is suspected at this time.
